
Dr Jane Murray

Dr Jane Murray is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University. She has been a Mental Health Nurse for more than 30 years, specialising in the care of older persons, particularly those with dementia. Dr Murray currently leads a Bachelor of Science Nursing programme at Kaplan Higher Education Academy in Singapore. She is a registered teacher and has specialist practitioner status (older persons mental health) from the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as registration with the Singapore Nursing Board.
As well as her international leadership role, Dr Murray has taught extensively into Malaysia, Borneo and China. This teaching has focused on care of the older person as well as healthcare law and ethics which is also part of her special interest in relation to older people. Dr Murray always highlights the importance of cultural awareness in relation to both teaching and healthcare. She develops teaching strategies and healthcare innovations that are appropriate to the environments she is working in, spending time in each country visiting hospitals, 24-hour care environments and organisations that help to support people older people and their families.
Her current research is focussed on issues relating to people with dementia and their families; how best to meet the needs of people with comorbid dementia and diabetes and truth and lie telling to people with dementia to support personhood. Dr Murray is passionate about improving care for older people both nationally and internationally.
