Paul Hammerton is the Managing Director of Walter Thompson, one of the North East’s largest privately owned construction companies. With over 37 years of industry experience, he is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and a recognised leader in the industry. Since joining Walter Thompson in 1987, Paul has played a pivotal role in the company’s growth. He was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2005 and became Managing Director in 2015. In this capacity, he is responsible for shaping and executing the firm’s strategic vision, including its longstanding collaboration with many of the UK’s leading care home specialists. With more than 24 years of expertise in the care sector, Paul is deeply committed to achieving excellence in the design and construction of care homes. Since 2000, he has overseen the development of over 5,000 care beds, delivering high-quality facilities for renowned operators such as Hadrian Health Care, Darrington Healthcare, Barchester, Bupa, Anchor, Angela Swift Developments, Lovett Care, Bond Care, Gateshead Council, and Exemplar Healthcare. Paul’s extensive sector knowledge allows him to provide invaluable guidance on care home design and construction. His expertise is widely recognized, and he has served as a judge for the Knight Frank Luxury Care Home Guide for five years, as well as for the Great British Care Awards and the Dementia Awards.
